Frequently asked questions

What Is Mdium?

Mdium is a free web application that allows you to transfer any photo, video or file across any device that can connect with the internet.

Are My Files Secure?

• Mdium uses Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256 encryption to prevent external data breaches;

• Files are stored temporarily on Mdium’s servers, based on the time period selected by the user, following which the files are permanently deleted. Other file-sharing services may store your files on cloud-based servers for extended periods of time where they might be susceptible to data breaches;

• Our code-based system generates unique seven-character codes consisting of upper case letters, lower case letters, and numbers;

• Users have the option for files to be deleted after one download to ensure only the intended recipient can access them.

How will Mdium continue to improve security?

• The ability to see when a file has been opened or downloaded;

• The option to add password protection to sent files;

• Account creation;

• Add or edit files, even after they have been sent.

Where are my files stored?

Files are stored in the State of Virginia, U.S., but we eventually plan to move them to Canada. If the location of the server is a concern, please contact the Mdium team.

How do you download files once you receive a code?

select the “Transfer Now” option on the website’s homepage, then click “Retrieve.” Copy the seven-character code into the colourful bubbles, and click retrieve. Click the “Download all” button, and the files will download onto your device.

How do you send files?

• To send files, select the “Transfer Now” option on the website’s homepage, then click “Send.”

• Click the + button to select the files you want to transfer, or drag and drop any media you wish to upload.

• Users will then have the option to select the method of transfer to send their files. Currently, you may select either the code or link options.

How do you receive files using a QR code?
